In the 1920s, Midwest farmers began to adopt a new technology that transformed American agriculture. They began using seed corn produced by crossing pure lines of different strains. This hybrid seed resulted in stronger plants and higher yields, or "hybrid vigor."

Tasting Notes

NOSE· Oak, caramel and vanilla followed by notes of peppercorns, chocolate, anise and lavender.

PALATE· Vanilla, honey, oak and black pepper followed by a balance of spice and sweet with smooth mouthfeel throughout.

FINISH· Smooth finish with oak, tannins, warm toffee and caramel followed by pepper from the rye.

MANHATTAN

COPPER CROSS MANHATTAN INGREDIENTS

  • 2 ounces Copper Cross Hybrid
  • 1 ounce sweet vermouth
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters
  • Cocktail cherry, for garnish

INSTRUCTIONS

Fill a mixing glass with ice and add the ingredients. Stir well and then strain into a chilled coupe glass. Garnish with a cherry.

OLD FASHIONED

COPPER CROSS OLD FASHIONED INGREDIENTS

  • 2 ounces of Copper Cross Hybrid
  • 3 dashes Angostura bitters
  • 1 Sugar Cube
  • Club Soda
  • Orange twist, for garnish

INSTRUCTIONS

Muddle the sugar cube and bitters with a short splash of club soda in a chilled Old Fashioned glass. Add Copper Cross and ice cubes – one large or several smaller – then stir until chilled. Garnish with orange twist.

COLLINS

COPPER CROSS COLLINS INGREDIENTS

  • 2 ounces of Copper Cross Hybrid
  • 1 ounce lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon superfine sugar
  • Club soda
  • Orange slice and cherry, for garnish

INSTRUCTIONS

Add the Copper Cross, lemon juice and sugar to a shaker and fill with ice. Shake well and strain into a Collins glass filled with fresh ice. Top with club soda and garnish with an orange slice and a maraschino cherry.

MULE

COPPER CROSS MULE INGREDIENTS

  • 2 ounces of Copper Cross Hybrid
  • ½ ounce of fresh lime juice
  • Ginger beer
  • Mint sprigs, for garnish

INSTRUCTIONS

Add the Copper Cross and lime juice to a Moscow Mule mug. Fill the mug with ice, top with cold ginger beer and stir. Add mint sprigs for garnish.
